A Conversation with Lita Tomas and Jean Marie McNamara: Beyond the Memoir, Part 1

In Part 1 of this special two part interview on Master Wings Publishing’s Beyond the Page podcast, Associate Publisher Sonya Sindberg sits down with military veterans and award winning coauthors Lita Tomas and Jean Marie McNamara to discuss their memoir, Lita & Jean: Memoirs of Two Generations of Military Women.

Lita talks about what it was like to revisit some of the most difficult chapters of her life and why writing the memoir took much longer than expected. Jean reflects on seeing her own experiences differently as she worked through old medical records and documents from a life changing injury. Find out what Jean discovered about how far she had come and how writing the book gave her a different perspective on her mother and the choices Lita made throughout her life.

Plus, hear what Lita and Jean think about remembering the same experiences differently and why they believe sharing personal stories can help readers better understand experiences outside of their own.

This is Part 1 of their conversation. Stay tuned for Part 2. You can also meet them in-person at Printers Row Lit Fest in Chicago on Saturday, September 12.
